ROLE OF PROPHYLACTIC GATIFLOXACIN IN LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY – A COMPARATIVE STUDY WITH CEFTRIAXONE

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness gatifloxacin ceftriaxone as prophylactic antibiotic in elective clean surgical procedures. Methods: Sixty patients, undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy, were recruited consecutively divided into two groups, that is, Group A B 30 patients each. In A, a pre-operative dose injection 1 g administered intravenously half an hour before induction anesthesia second given 12 h postoperatively. B, tablet Gatifloxacin 400 mg night operation another postoperatively when patient started orally evening. If not accepting then single intravenous infusion Results: one (3.33%) had grade (6.66%) 2 infection. Similarly None both groups severe post-operative wound infection (grade 3 4). Conclusion: Prophylactic is non-inferior “current gold standard ceftriaxone” far drug concerned. addition, it similar side effect profile equally safe preventing following routine cholecystectomy.
